Shared Ministry Position Description
Position: Eucharistic Minister
Purpose of Position: To aid in the distribution of the consecrated Bread and Wine during the celebration of the Mass.
Responsibilities:
- Attendance at scheduled Masses and securing of substitute when unable to attend.
- Distribution of consecrated bread and wine.
- Cleaning and packing of the vessels after Mass.
Qualifications:
- Confirmed member of the Catholic Faith and at least 16 years old.
- Understanding and appreciation of the Catholic theology of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
- Appropriate dress and ability to communicate reverence in the performance of your duties.
Amount of time required: 1 ½ hours: 15 minutes prior to Mass until 15 minutes after Mass. Scheduled approximately 2 times per month, depending on number of volunteers
When ministry is performed: Saturday afternoon and/or Sunday morning Masses, as well as Feast days.
Length of Commitment: Initial appointment is made by the pastor of the parish. This is confirmed by a three-year appointment by the Archbishop, which may be renewed.
Training provided: Initial 1-hour training, including hand-outs/training materials. Additional materials from the Archdiocese.
