Shared Ministry Position Description
Position:
Usher
Purpose of Position:
To attend to the practical aspects of worship: setup/teardown, monetary collection, direct assistance to parishioners, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Attendance at scheduled Masses and securing of substitute when unable to attend.
- Appropriate dress: shirt with collar, casual dress pants (no jeans), no sandal-type shoes (men) and modest clothing for women.
- Assist in setting up and tearing down of worship space: pews, chairs, worship aids, collection envelopes, etc.
- Take up the monetary collection and secure it after Mass.
- Assist parishioners with seating and direct processions.
Qualifications:
- Ability to anticipate and respond to needs of parishioners
- Good communicator
- Self-motivated
- Ability to be reverent during liturgy.
Amount of time required:
1 ½ hours (including Mass): 20 minutes prior to Mass until 10-15 minutes after Mass.
Scheduled for one month at a time, approx. 3 times per year.
When ministry is performed:
Saturday afternoon and/or Sunday morning Masses, as well as Feast days.
Length of Commitment:
1 year
Training provided:
Initial 45-minute training; ongoing mentoring as needed.
